Avis Lowder was born on 2 Jun 1779 in Bangor, Penobscot County, Maine to Col. Jonathan Lowder and Deliverance Cook1,2. She married Josiah Banks, son of Aaron Banks and Mary Perkins, in Castine, Hancock, Maine3. They had one son, Samuel Lowder Banks (1798-1812)4. Josiah Banks was lost at sea en route to Cuba5,6.

She next married Wilder Taylor on 21 May 1809 in Castine7. They had at least seven children:

  2. Edmund French born 26 Dec 1811 in Castine9
  3. Mary Ann born 15 Jun 1813 in Castine10
  4. Avis born Feb 1815 in Castine11

  7. William Wilder born about 1818, died 187514
