Eben H. Chase was born in Bangor, Penobscot County, Maine, approximately 11 May 1846, son of Jonathan Chase and Emily Ham. Some vital records found for Eben estimate his birth year a few years before or after 1846, but his gravestone and enumerations on three separate census years place his birth year in 1846.1,2,3

Eben H. Chase appeared on the 1850, 1860, and 1870 US Federal Censuses in the Bangor home of his father Jonathan Chase. In 1850 he was four years old, and in 1860 he was fourteen. Eben was twenty four years old in 1870 and gave his occupation as “millwright”, as did his brother Walter Chase, living in the same home.4,5,6

He married Hannah E. Fogg on 5 Jan 1876 in Bangor.7,8,9 I have not been able to locate any records of them having children.

Eben H. Chase died in Bangor on 7 May 1878 at thirty one years of age.10,11
