Roland M. Chase was born in Bangor, Penobscot County, Maine between 10 Sep 1891 and 15 Sep 1891 to John Colby Chase and Cora A. Gilman.1,2

Roland was enumerated on the 1900, 1910, and 1920 US Federal Censuses on Ohio Street in Bangor. He was eight, eighteen, and twenty eight years old respectively. In 1920 is occupation was given as “farmer”.3,4,5

Roland registered for the draft on 5 June 1917. He was described as being of medium build and height, with blue eyes and brown hair. He gave his address as RFD #4 on Ohio Street in Bangor. He was still single and farming for a living as of that date.6

On the 1930 US Census, Roland M. Chase is again living on Ohio Street in Bangor, this time as the head of the household, his father having died in late 1920. Roland is not married and is living with his mother, sister Allene, and his aunt Suzie J. Chase, ninety years old. His occupation was again given as “farmer”.7

On 12 Aug 1939, Roland married Pearl Spragg in Bangor.8 He was about forty eight when he married, and Pearl was about 34, so there may have been children. I don’t have records of any. If they did have children there is a good chance that they might still be living.

In 1940, the household consisted of only Roland and Pearl, aged 48 and 34 respectively. He gave his occupation as “carpenter”.9 The census sheet also says that his wife Pearl lived in the same house in 1935. Either this was a mistake or misinformation, or Pearl lived in the house doing some kind of work, such as a servant or nurse.

I found Roland M. Chase in the 1952, 1955, 1958, and 1962 Bangor city directories. His occupation was “carpenter”, living on RD4 off Ohio, wife Pearl S.10,11,12,13

Roland M. Chase died 7 Oct 1962 in Bangor.14,15
