William F Call was born about 1 Oct 1846, calculated from his age and date of death recorded on his gravestone1.  William was the son of Ephraim Call and Caroline F. Lowry. He appeared on the 1850 US Federal Census in Bangor, Penobscot County, Maine, being three years old at that time2.

William F Call was killed by a falling tree on 20 Jan 1858 in Hermon, Penobscot County, Maine3,4. The notice in the Bangor Daily Whig and Courier issued 2 Feb 1858 reads:

Boy Killed in Hermon – On Friday last, as Mr. Ephraim Call of Hermon was returning from the woods with his son, a boy about eleven years of age, the latter stopped a few minutes where two men were engaged in felling trees while the father proceeded on. In about five minutes he was overtaken with the sad intelligence that a falling tree had struck his son on the head, rendering him insensible. The lad lived about six hours.
